Logo for Blog Posts-2Industry leaders, engineers, and manufacturing and construction experts gathered at Corporate College in Warrensville Heights, Ohio, for the 73rd Annual Engineering in Construction and Manufacturing (EC&M) Conference and Trade Show. Hosted by the Cleveland Engineering Society (CES) in partnership with MAGNET and Manufacturing Works, this year’s event embraced the theme "Out of the Box," encouraging attendees to rethink traditional approaches and explore innovative solutions to industry challenges.

The event commenced with a keynote address by Timothy Offtermatt from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, discussing "Matching Capital Realities with Today’s Construction Needs." Throughout the day, participants engaged in various panels and breakout sessions covering topics such as drone technology in infrastructure, future airport design, and workforce development for emerging energy systems.

The manufacturing track, facilitated by MAGNET, included four dynamic sessions that showcased practical insights and strategies for growth and innovation in the manufacturing industry.

  1. Retaining & Engaging Manufacturing Talent
    Presented by Mike O’Donnell, MAGNET’s COO of Consulting, this session offered actionable strategies to improve workforce retention and engagement in manufacturing settings. With a rapidly evolving workforce landscape, he emphasized the importance of building career pathways, leveraging technology for efficiency, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  2. Best Practices in Manufacturing - A Blueprint for Manufacturing Success
    Moderated by Mike O’Donnell, this panel featured Elie Merheb (KAPCO), Steve Trapp (Venture Plastics), and Ed Yenni (LogiSync). The discussion provided real-world examples of successful manufacturing practices, focusing on the pillars of talent, technology, innovation, and leadership.

  3. Transformation & Technology in Manufacturing
    Presented by Michael Canty and Mike O’Donnell, this session explored the latest technological advancements and transformational strategies in manufacturing. The speakers highlighted how embracing technology can streamline operations and drive growth.

  4. Growing Your Business Value
    Delivered by Joel Strom, this session focused on strategies for enhancing the value of manufacturing businesses, with practical tips on operational excellence and market positioning.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Manufacturing Innovation Award to Bowden, a company with a 72-year legacy of excellence in manufacturing. Introduced by Mike O’Donnell, the award recognized Bowden as a shining example of MAGNET’s Manufacturing Blueprint, demonstrating excellence in talent, technology, innovation, and leadership. A Plain Dealer "Top Work Place" and a Smart Culture Honoree, Bowden creates many CNC parts for the Defense, Aerospace and Energy industries.
