Manufacturing Forum Showcases Key Funding Opportunities and Insights

On October 9, 2024, MAGNET hosted a Manufacturing Forum in Canfield, OH, bringing together manufacturers and economic development organizations from across the Appalachian region. The event offered participants a unique opportunity to explore funding opportunities available through MAGNET from the Appalachian Regional Commission’s (ARC) ARISE and POWER initiatives.

Senator Al Cutrona of 33rd Ohio District, gave opening remarks alongside Ethan Karp, MAGNET President & CEO with Guy Coviello of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, Alexa Sweeney Blackann of Lake to River Economic Development, Penny Traina of the Columbiana County Port Authority and the Ashtabula Growth Partnership supporting the cause and presenting.

Keynote speakers Tom Reed and Matt Henderson from Catalyst Connection provided an overview of the Energy Manufacturing in Appalachia (CEMA) program. They presented details on available mini-grants and other federal funding opportunities, and the importance of sustainable practices for small- and medium-sized manufacturers. The presentation emphasized practical steps to integrate energy solutions into manufacturing operations.

The event concluded with a panel moderated by Janelle Lee, MAGNET’s Director of Client Engagement. Panelists included Doug Rende, CEO and President of Shapes Unlimited, Inc.; Jeremy Kerola, VP of Uniserv, LLC; and Darlyn McDermott, MAGNET’s Director of Client
