On September 30th, 2015, MAGNET and Crain’s Cleveland Business hosted [M]Power 2015, a celebration of the best and brightest of Northeast Ohio’s manufacturing community. Kicking off October’s Manufacturing Month, [M]Power saw over 450 attendees at the John S. Knight Center in Akron coming together to attend informative, in-depth breakout sessions and to network over breakfast and lunch. "This year’s [M]Power has been a complete success," said MAGNET President and CEO Ethan Karp. "We measure that by the feedback we’ve received from attendees, which has been overwhelmingly positive. And, with over a hundred additional attendees from last year’s event, it’s very clear that Northeast Ohio manufacturers are optimistic about the region and its potential." Attendees also listened as Sean Stack, CEO of Aleris, provided the morning keynote speech. A CEO panel discussion took place over lunch, with Ramzi Hermiz (President & CEO of Shiloh Industries), Dr. Mike Heil (President of Ohio Aerospace Institute) and Steve Peplin (CEO of Talan Products) discussing "what keeps Ohio manufacturers awake at night." Crain’s reporter Rachel McCafferty moderated this informative and fascinating discussion. [M]Power Spotlight: Tom Ault of ERC offers advice on tapping into NEO talent pool

September 28, 2015 by MAGNET Ohio

This is the third of the [M]Power Interview Series, highlighting the manufacturing leaders that will be featured at the [M]Power Manufacturing Assembly this Sept. 30 in Akron. A special thank you to Fathom Digital Marketing for their help! Workforce development is a growing issue in the manufacturing industry and its effects could reach far beyond the present moment. In fact, in 10 years it’s expected that the manufacturing industry will be lacking 2 million necessary workers due to the retirement of about 3 million current workers. While this may mean good news for those looking to get hired at a manufacturing company, it poses a host of dilemmas for the manufacturing companies themselves. Not only does the increase in retiring workers mean a discouraging loss of experience and embedded knowledge in the industry, there simply aren’t enough young people interested in manufacturing to take their place. That’s where people like Tom Ault come in. As the Director of Technical Training and Sr. Training Consultant at ERC, Ault specializes in workforce development for manufacturers. Presenting on "Quit Whining, Start Winning: 3 Must-Have Workforce Development Strategies for Your Business", Ault shared some of his thoughts about the industry and the upcoming [M]Power

This is the first of the [M]Power Interview Series, highlighting the manufacturing leaders that will be featured at the [M]Power Manufacturing Assembly this Sept. 30 in Akron. A special thank you to Fathom Digital Marketing for their help! The belief that manufacturing and marketing don’t mix is held for many reasons. One man has successfully managed to stand between these crossroads and navigate a path for success. Craig Coffey of Lincoln Electric has spent the last nine of his 20 years of B2B marketing experience in the manufacturing industry. On August 28th Coffey took some time out of his bustling life—which consists of such fascinating activities as launching a groundbreaking welding magazine and planning for his upcoming segment at Content Marketing World—to speak to me about the junction between manufacturing and marketing and how exactly he hopes to address this at [M]Power on September 30th.
