Resources for Employers

Northeast Ohio Offers Dozens of Talent & Workforce Development Resources

MAGNET Logo

MAGNET needs Manufacturing Ambassadors for our Dream!t Do!t program to carry the exciting message about the future of manufacturing in Northeast Ohio to young people and other manufacturers.

The National Association of Manufacturers, through its Manufacturing Institute, has four goals for the DIDI program:

Enhance public perception of manufacturing.

Convince young people to prepare for careers in manufacturing.

Encourage manufacturers to take a leadership role in advancing career opportunities.

Motivate manufacturers to improve their own global competitiveness.

Manufacturing Ambassadors host plant tours for students, speak at schools, and sponsor student internships and teacher externships.

For more information, download the Manufacturing Ambassador Program brochure (PDF, 175k). To find out how your or your team can get active as Manufacturing Ambassadors, contact MAGNET today!

Looking for a Way to Remain Globally Competitive?

Ohio Means Jobs Home Page

Ohio Means Jobs is a free portal that allows employers to post vacant positions and search millions of resumes. These include job seekers based in Ohio, limited bordering states and those willing to relocate to Ohio.

Ohio Means Jobs is a valuable resource to find qualified individuals who have the skills and want to work in advanced manufacturing.

Education & Training Resources

Want to find a training program for your employees? Looking to find an organization that can design a custom program for your plant? Seeking access to the region's top graduates?

Whatever you're looking for, you can find it right here in Northeast Ohio. Browse our Education and Training Resources.

The 22-page Resource Toolkit for Manufacturers (PDF, 96k) is designed for manufacturers who plan to visit a classroom or give a school tour of their facilities. It includes links to online resources that might be helpful to reinforce your points or exemplify the kind of work or product unique to your company. Suggestions are provided for different grade levels and course subject matter. It is important to help the students see how what they are learning in school relates to the world of work.

The Right Skills Now for Manufacturing initiative builds on the success of the NAM-Endorsed Manufacturing Skills Certification System, which includes nationally portable, industry-recognized certifications that are combined with for-credit education programs. ACT’s National Career Readiness Certificate is the foundational credential of this stackable program while the NIMS credentials certify critical in-demand machining and metalworking skills. Partners include the President's Council on Jobs and Competitiveness, the Manufacturing Institute, ACT Inc., and the National Institute for Metalworking Skils (NIMS).

Vocational Guidance Services (VGS)

Vocational Guidance Services LogiVocational Guidance Services (VGS) secures service and product contracts, and can provide workers to manufacturers who help meet operational and production needs while advancing VGS’s philanthropic mission. In the case of labor-intensive work, temporary labor and services contracts, these workers are VGS employees and VGS therefore pays all of the wages and fringes.

If the employer likes what it sees from these workers and decides it would like to hire them as employees, the company then become the employer and pays the wages.

For this "Social Enterprise" approach to succeed, though, VGS knows that commercial price, quality and delivery expectations must be achieved by the participating companies. To help companies meet these expectations while employing people challenged by disabilities, VGS provides a unique blend of social service supports and business management finesse. This enables VGS to provide paid work experience to more than 1,000 people daily!

This program helps people dealing with physical disabilities, mental disabilities, economic challenges and/or a history of incarceration find jobs. To discuss how to get involved as a community-based employment site, contact info@vgsjob.org or call 216.431.7800; TTY: 216.431.0073.

One-Stop Centers

Want to find workers whose skills match your needs? Would it be a big plus if your employees lived in or near your community?
