Youngstown State University and MAGNET Sign Cooperative Agreement Designed to Boost Mahoning Valley Manufacturing

Agreements Commit Institutions to Work Cooperatively and Jointly  to Help Manufacturers Pursue Innovative Growth Strategies Through MAGNET’s PRISM Program

PRISM LogoYoungstown, Ohio—April 24, 2013—Youngstown State University (YSU) and the Manufacturing Advocacy & Growth Network (MAGNET) today announced that they have signed a cooperative agreement that will enable small to mid-size manufacturers in the Mahoning Valley to gain easier access to the research capabilities, hard assets and world-class knowledge and technological capabilities based at YSU and four other institutions of higher learning in Northeast Ohio.

The agreement commits YSU, Cleveland State University, Case Western Reserve University, Lorain County Community College and the University of Akron to further economic development in the region by helping manufacturers pursue innovative growth strategies through MAGNET’s Partnership for Regional Innovation Services to Manufacturers (PRISM) program. On October 9, 2012, MAGNET held a press conference to announce the signature of MOUs with four regional institutions of higher education that have agreed to work with PRISM to aid small- and medium-size manufacturers in Northeast Ohio.

PRISM Provides:

  • market, business and technical expertise;
  • world-class research and development facilities/capabilities;
  • supply chain and development partners;
  • state-of-the-art technologies;
  • full-time and part-time talent from local universities and community colleges; and
  • funding opportunities.

Getting your business to realize its full potential requires partners that know the difference between potential and pitfall. Help available through PRISM includes:

Access to Resources: PRISM will connect you to the business and technical resources at universities, research centers and government labs, as well as potential funding through financial institutions and economic development organizations.

Access to Innovation: PRISM’s commercialization process will help you realize your growth plans faster, cheaper and with less risk by accelerating innovative ideas from inception through launch.

Access to Peers: Through PRISM, you will tap into the region’s most powerful asset: other forward-looking manufacturers and supply chain partners like yourself who are willing to collaborate in the advancement of innovative products and business solutions.

In this 2012 Clinton Global Initiative America Progress Report short video, NEO partners NorTech and MAGNET report on their work through PRISM to connect manufacturers in Northeast Ohio with the tools and resources they need to move confidently into the future of manufacturing.
